Why the Re Enzo?
In 1249, at the Battle of Fossalta, Bologna's army captured and imprisoned the son of Frederick II of Hohenstaufen. He spent 23 years in Bologna's prisons, but his long period of detention soon turned into a gilded imprisonment due to the well-known hospitality which then characterised the city of Bologna and which still inspires the work of the Hotel Re Enzo's staff today.
